A metropolis gets demolished by a tempest yet the nature of the inhabitants could not be overwhelmed – they decided to rebuild the city and a new capital as well. A tale like this would make a good book…and it would be based on a true set of events of what happened about forty years ago in a place just south of Mexico. This is the truth behind the origin of the city of Belmopan, the capital city of the country of Belize.

Belize City, the former capital city located along the coast, was wrecked by a category 5 storm in 1961 so a new capital city was created further inland and it was named Belmopan. Like many other people, I too wanted to see the city that was built as a result of a concerted effort of its people. And there were a host of Belmopan hotels that helped me tour this exciting city in an effortless manner.
